R. GENE BARBERA
The work of Richard Eugene Barbera is undoubtedly influenced by people. From the fisherman in his early life in Maine to the natives encountered during extensive travel around the world – all the various expressions and characters are what make up his paintings today. With unforgiving and meaningful one-stroke executions, he creates a distinct personality, often adding uncomplimentary colors and exaggerated features that result in a mysterious finish. Barbera studied at the University of Southern Maine and the University of Hartford Art School and has designed graphics imagery for many consumer products as well as for events, including the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and the 2005-06 Tour de France.
